Billboards Shine Light on Achievements of People with Down Syndrome

In a powerful display of inclusion and awareness, the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) has partnered with OUTFRONT Media to launch a nationwide billboard campaign titled “I Got That Extra.” This initiative celebrates the accomplishments and professional successes of individuals with Down syndrome, aiming to shift societal perceptions and promote greater understanding and acceptance.

Featured Individuals and Locations

The billboards will be showcased in several major U.S. cities, including Atlanta, Philadelphia, Houston, St. Peter’s, Mo., and Metairie, La. Each location features a local individual with Down syndrome who has made significant contributions in their respective fields. For example, Angad Sahgal from Atlanta and Max Crawford from St. Peter’s are among those highlighted for their entrepreneurial and design skills. Julia Tyler from Philadelphia, Craig Blackburn from Metairie, and Sean Davis from Houston are also celebrated for their achievements.

Campaign Objectives and Impact

The primary goal of the campaign is to challenge traditional stereotypes surrounding Down syndrome. By highlighting the successes and achievements of individuals with the condition, NDSS aims to promote inclusion and encourage employers to recognize the value that people with Down syndrome can bring to the workforce. This aligns with NDSS’s Employment Program, which focuses on increasing access to employment opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome.

The campaign will run from March 15 to March 21, culminating with World Down Syndrome Day on March 21. This timing is strategic, as it coincides with National Down Syndrome Awareness Week, a period dedicated to raising awareness and celebrating the contributions of people with Down syndrome. Overall, the “I Got That Extra” campaign is a significant step forward in promoting inclusion and challenging societal norms.
